WASHINGTON
D.C. - Barney,
the Scottish terrier who holds
the position of first pet in
the Bush Administration, announced
his resignation Wednesday. He
is the tenth Bush Administration
cabinet member to resign in
the past two weeks, leaving
many wondering about the cause
of this mass exodus. In his
letter of resignation Barney
said, "I've tried to do
some good things during my time
here in Washington, but largely
I've been ignored." Speculation
about Barney's replacement has
already begun with the AP reporting
that a feisty miniature schnauzer
named Winifred has been asked
to fill the position. Other
strong possibilities are a Tibetan
spaniel named Ripley and a Portuguese
water dog who goes by Big Poppa.
