The
tower's square shape and appearance
of the new F.T.W. Tower has been designed
in a way that it can replace all of
the 10 million square feet of commercial
space lost in the attacks.
Architects Doug Simmons & Randolph
Geiger worked together to create the
design. They were asked to submit a
final design this week by New York Gov.
George Pataki, who wants to break ground
on the building as soon as possible.
Gov. Pataki said, "We all feel
that the sooner the F.T.W. Tower is
completed it will really once again
boost moral for this city, state and
country. It will show the rest of the
world the New York City attitude."
Pataki added, "Re-election is coming
so it's probably smart for me to push
this. Plus I think the design is hilarious.
I think i'll send a picture to Rudy
(Giuliani) once construction is completed.
That should help him know how I really
feel about him."
A broadcast antenna brings the structure's
total height above 3,000 feet. There
will be 163 floors of office space capped
by a Coney Island Hot Dog & Hamburger
Restaurant, and an all glass enclosed
70's themed Discotheque.
The F.T.W. Tower's shape is meant to
echo how New Yorkers feel about everything.
