PARIS
(AP) - In a
bizarre twist of fate, French
lawyer Jacques Verges has decided
to defend Saddam Hussein in
his upcoming war-crimes trial.
Verges, famous for defending
notorious terrorists and one
Nazi leader, says he is excited
about his new case and very
optimistic.
“We will plead self defense,”
Verges told reporters. When
asked about the numerous executions
Mr. Hussein is being charged
with, Verges replied, “Minor
fire-arm safety negligence.”
“I believe,” he
added, “that it will become
apparent to the global community
that these charges are much
too harsh. My client’s
art was very important to him.
How was he to realize that the
world would not understand the
beautiful complexity which is
Saddam Hussein?”
Right:
"It was an innocent
prank gone awry."
Left: "Now you
tell me.
Is this the face of
evil?"
Verges
is most famous for representing Venezuelan
terrorist Carlos The Jackal, and Nazi
Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie who, because
of Verges relentless efforts, was only
charged with racketeering.
