Bush Urges Ban On Gay Divorce

WASHINGTON D.C. - President Bush urged members of the Congress to support his constitutional ban on gay divorce.

“We are at a crossroads here,” he said at a press conference this week. “We as a country need to decide which side of the fence we are on.  Morality and traditional American values, or a sinful practice that tears at the fabric of our great society.”

Many gay rights groups as well as Democrats in the House and Senate are in an uproar about Bush’s attempts to make gay divorce illegal under the Constitution.  There have been many protests in front of the White House and Capitol this week.

Presidential hopeful John F. Kerry expressed his concern over a constitutional amendment banning gay divorce.  However he also cited that he believes divorce is strictly between a man and a woman.

Traditional Divorce In Action

“I fully oppose a constitutional amendment on an issue that should be left up to individual states to decide,” he told reporters. “However, divorce is a sacred act between a man and a woman.  Divorce is one of the keystones of American Culture.  I certainly don’t like the thought of two homosexuals getting married, only to divorce a year later because they miss the good old days of anonymous promiscuity on the subway.”

Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards agreed. “I don’t think we should let these people stomp all over our values with their frivolous divorces, but I still think it is a state issue, not a federal issue.”

The vote to ban gay divorce is set for summer 2005.
